Answer:
This is a great question and brings up a good point, because supplies are no good to you if you can’t get to them. The thing is if you think you’ll be using the tactical vest, you’ll need to be prepared to train in it to become accustomed to the weight and fit. Also, just because a vest allows you to carry more things doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Bullets and water are heavy. If you have pockets, or extra cubic inches of storage, the natural tendency is to fill those spaces up and thereby weigh yourself down. I’d say that while tactical vests are an excellent option for professional soldier’s who train in these sorts of things all day every day, the civilians should focus more on how to travel lightly and quickly, with enough supplies to make it to safe zones and the right equipment to survive once you get there. The hard choices you’ll have to make by keeping things light will ultimately pay dividends in pack weight and survival.
Maybe a better option would be a tactical belt. It’s lighter and it’ll give you access to the most important equipment while you’re on the run.
